Brandt Beef Chef Cathy Shank Wins People’s Choice Award at ‘Bounty of the County’ Cooking Competition

SAN DIEGO– February 3, 2010 – Brandt Beef, a single-family owned producer of premium beef, announced today that the company’s Assistant Corporate Chef Cathy Shank won the People’s Choice Award at the 2nd Annual Taste of the Valley “Bounty of the County” cooking competition, held Friday, January 29. Shank prepared and entered her Brandt Beef Asian Chuck Flap Meat Salad, which was voted as the crowd favorite.

“Since Brandt Beef’s cattle ranch is located right here in Brawley, it meant a great deal to have been selected by the local residents and diners for the People’s Choice Award,” says Shank. “The Brandt Beef flap is a true sustainable cut of meat that has become popular among chefs due to its versatility as a braising item. The “Bounty of the County” cooking contest is sponsored by the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation and Imperial Valley Vegetable Growers Association. It is a featured event at the annual Taste of the Valley, an expo showcasing the best produce, agriculture and culinary products Imperial Valley has to offer. The sole People’s Choice Award winner was chosen based on voting cards submitted by each attendee. The “Bounty of the County” award, chosen by a panel of judges, went to the team "Valley's Best Sidekicks” sponsored by Paul Cameron Ranches, D & G Trucking, Emanuelli & Sons, Otis Kramer Ranches and Rick Young Ranches.
